What is Cyber Law?

The term cyber law or cyberspace has today come to signify everything related to computers, the Internet, website, data, e-mails, network, data storage devices(such as hard disks,USB etc) and even electronic devices such as cell phones, ATM machines etc. Thus a simplified definition of cyber law is that it is the “ law governing cyber space”.

The issues addressed by cyber law includes:

  1. Cyber crime
  2. Electronic Commerce
  3. Intelectual property in as much as it applies to cyberspace
  4. Data protection & privacy

Some interesting definition of cyber crime according to the “Criminal Justice Resource Manual” is

  • Computer crime is any violation of specific laws that relate to computer crime.
  • Computer related crimeis violation of criminal law that involve a knowledge of computer technology for their perpetration, investigation or prosecution.
  • Computer abuse is intentional acts that may or many now be specifically prohibited by criminal statutes. Any intentional act involving knowledge of computer use or technology is computer abuse if one or more perpetrators made or cloud have made again and/ or more victim suffered or cloud have suffered loss.
